Disney and Sexism
I found this video very interesting a majority of the people who grew up watching these cartoons have failed tor realize the heavy amount of sexism that is embedded in what our kids watch. We see the kids learn very early on how to become their roles in society from very early on. Our kids today get bombarded with images as such without knowing what they are actually seeing. It is a shame that given our history of change, the roles of women have yet to fully established as a force in our society.
I find this video very interesting because we see how Disney not only affects the minds of girls, but the minds of boys as well. This video shows how Disney shows the buff good looking guy as the hero and the normal looking (or the fat ones) aside or even as the antagonist. But I ask, is it really that bad to make boys realize these things? I mean when I lost weight the first time I wanted to look like these people and it worked, isn't this a way to fight childhood Obesity? It worked on me...
ReplyDeleteI am really glad that this filmmaker looked at how body image impacts men. I understand that women are heavily objectified in the media. However, there are certain ideals that men are taught to strive for as well. Being a skinny man, I have often thought about how people see me based on my height and weight. It is also refreshing to see films that I grew up with in a new light.
